Me comprometo a llevar las voces de la gente de Pawtucket y Providence a la Cámara de Representantes estatal, ayudándonos a construir un Rhode Island más fuerte, más saludable y más resiliente.

Thanks for stopping by! I’m Meghan Kallman, and it has been the honor of my life to represent the people of Pawtucket and Providence in the Rhode Island Senate. I’m running for re-election in 2026 because I believe our diversity is our strength, and that our best decisions are made when we make them together.
I come from a family of hard-working, fun-loving people. My mother, Beth, taught biology in the New Hampshire public schools where I was born, and my father, Seth, built septic systems. I grew up in a rambunctious blended family, attended public high school, and started waiting tables when I was fourteen. A longtime community organizer, I first moved to Pawtucket for graduate school and never looked back. I earned my bachelor’s degree from Smith College, a master’s from the University of Chicago, and a PhD from Brown. Today I’m a professor at UMass Boston in the School for Global Inclusion and Social Development, where I’m active in union leadership, and I’ve also taught at the Rhode Island Adult Correctional Institutions and at Brown.
Before the Senate, I served two terms on the Pawtucket City Council representing Ward 5. Since taking office in 2021, I’ve worked to turn our shared values into law. I was the Senate sponsor of the Fair Housing Practices Act, which bars landlords from discriminating against renters based on their source of income, and I helped secure Rhode Island’s first-ever permanent funding stream for affordable housing. I’ve championed “Yes in God’s Backyard” so faith communities can build affordable homes on their land, fought to keep RIPTA running and the R-Line free, passed crash-data transparency to make our streets safer, and led the Protect Our Courts Act to keep our courthouses spaces of justice, not fear. I’m proud to have been named a Pacesetter by the Women Legislators’ Lobby and an Environmental Champion by Clean Water Action.
There’s nowhere in the world I’d rather be than Rhode Island. I’m a sociologist who writes books and articles about social change, the founder of two nonprofits, and a co-founder of Crash Pawtucket, which showcases our local small businesses. I speak fluent Spanish. You’ll find me playing trumpet with the Extraordinary Rendition Band at PVDFest or a neighborhood porchfest, walking my dog Poe all over town, organizing community dinners, or starting a community garden. Community is the very stuff of life.
I believe the job of an elected official is to make sure our community is heard — and to help build a world where everyone can thrive. I’m a passionate advocate for housing, climate justice and a green economy, accessible healthcare including reproductive care, workers’ rights, racial justice, the arts, and safe, inclusive communities. I promise to always be accessible, always willing to listen, and always transparent about my decisions. We’re writing our shared future as we speak — let’s dream big.
